Double Ribbon Braid

Double the Fun!

IMG_2423

Beautiful French Braid with 2 ribbons. Seriously if you can braid, you can sew!

IMG_2421

IMG_2413

Start with a Inside Out or Regular French Braid

IMG_2415

Get 2 ribbons, make sure they are at least 4 inches longer than the braid on both sides. So when you hold the middle of the ribbon on the top of the hair, both ends extend at least 4 to 5 inches longer than the braid.

IMG_2416

With your sewing needle the best look is when you sew DOWN the braid evenly.

IMG_2417

IMG_2418

So I sewed Blue on one side of the braid, then purple down the other side.

I love it! Even the lunch lady stopped her and asked how it was done!

Simple Ribbon

IMG_0992

I’m back! Now that school is back in my kids need to look their best! This do is a quick and easy one.

IMG_0987 - Copy

Start with any french braid, you can do inside out braid too. Braid away, then find some ribbon.

IMG_0988 - Copy

The middle of my ribbon sits where my finger is. Then make sure you have a good 4 inches extra ribbon beyond the length of the hair on each side, just to be safe!

IMG_0989 - Copy

Sew the ribbon in. Pay attention to where you sew and make a pattern.

When I get to the end I put the dull needle in the middle of the elastic and pull it through, then cut the ribbon with scissors so it is the exact length of the hair.

IMG_0992

Voila

IMG_0993 - Copy

If you have 2 ribbons, maybe 2 different colors you could repeat this process but sew down the other side of the braid. I’ll try that and show some pics. Enjoy! Glad to be back!

How to entertain the kids, and do their hair

Several of you have requested I share some things I do to help my little ones sit still while I do their hair. These are some things that work for me.

* IPAD/IPOD is our NUMBER ONE, or leapsters, some sort of game

* You can prop them in front of the TV, that is harder for me..I need the bathroom

* When I had babies that could sit I would hand them everyone’s toothbrush and seriously that entertained them always – unless that grosses you out. We never cared.

* I also have a small plastic tub that holds some hair things, bows, ribbons, etc that my girls play with or put on their dolls

* For my older kids I take this time to ask how they are doing and how school is, and teach them life’s lessons…I really do…it’s a great time to just chat

*If you have a jewelry box you can let them check out that would work

*Sometimes I have my little one hold the elastics and play with those, and hand me colors, and count them

***My girls have always been good about sitting and so I don’t have it very hard…but the key thing is to remember you might need something different and new each day for the little ones, and have your hairdo idea already figured out to make it faster.

***My last and most important info is this START THEM WHEN THEY ARE YOUNG. My girls always got put in front of the mirror to have their hair done, and the consistency helps. Now I still remember a phase they all went through where I had to do quick do’s and have entertainment ready, but they always got out of that phase.

Please comment on other suggestions you have for mother’s out there.

Good Luck!

Prom Hair with curls

IMG_0964

This do is perfect for PROM, fancy nights out, whatever really and cute on little ones, teens, and even Mom’s!

IMG_0954

Start by dividing the hair like so. Just the top portion, but not all the way down to her ear.

IMG_0955

Now combine all the rest of the hair into 2 piggy tails. Keep them close together. You could even braid the sides of the hair, then put them in piggy’s.

IMG_0956

Hot curls! Lots of hair spray!

IMG_0958

Now with your finger, re-curl each curl up and bobby pin it. There is no wrong way, just make sure the bobby pin is secure, and you make the hair look full and even all over.

IMG_0960

So I just pinned up the top 2/3 of the curls, the decided to leave the bottom ones hanging loose!

IMG_0964

For prom you could sew in a ribbon, add flowers, or fake butterflies, tinsel, or my favorite…sprinkle glitter all over and spray it on with hair spray!!

Princess Star Bun

IMG_1128

This hair do is my ultimate favorite – I think. It really is simple, and looks way fancy! Great for church, dance recitals, and even prom!

IMG_1129

IMG_1123

Here is where you choose to do a half the hair, or you could do a full pony tail. I have sectioned the front of her hair because we are growing out her bangs.

I recommend using a strong elastic for the main pony. Also for the rest of the hair use fun colorful, or nice sparkly  or clear elastics….the elastics make the hair do, so make sure you have good ones!

IMG_1112

From the pony tail section the pony into 6 sections, and put the elastic about 1” away from the main pony. WET HAIR WILL BE BEST!

IMG_1114

I use clips and helping hands to hold some of the sections. Make sure that you evenly make the sections in a circular form!

Okay that was the hardest part. Good job!

IMG_1115

Now you will take half of one of the sections and combine in 1” down to half the the adjacent section. Do this 6 times.

IMG_1116

Depending on the length of hair, you can add one more row or two. You don’t want too long of hair left hanging out the edge of the star.

IMG_1125

So I did one more row of combining adjacent sections.

IMG_1127

When you get finished this is what it looks like. Craziness!

IMG_1119

Then push the ends of the hair in toward the main pony. I find the ends hold better if you can actually tuck them back into the main pony tail holder. If not hide the ends with bobby pins.

IMG_1124

IMG_1130

I added just 5 curls to the back of her long hair to fancy up the bottom, and put a bow inside the bun.

IMG_1132

This is my version on the baby hair. The bun just sat on the top.

IMG_1122

This was my oldest going to school.

For a tighter bun that is not very big just do less sectioning and hide the ends well!

What do you think? Are you going to try it?

Puff Braid Time

IMG_0757

This is a design as you go, you can be creative as you want.

IMG_0747

I sectioned the front of her hair into 3 parts.

IMG_0748

IMG_0749

Then I section the back of her hair into 3 halves, and on the far right I combined the first front section to the middle, then sectioned it a 3rd time to the bottom. The picture makes more sense then the words.

IMG_0751

I did the same on the other far left side. Leaving the middle alone for now.

IMG_0752

Now I added the middle section of hair into a 2nd section.

IMG_0753

Then split it in two. Adding the hair to each bottom section.

IMG_0754

Then smile, because that really is easy!

IMG_0757

And of course add your darling bows from Aunt Nano!

Easy Side Pony Ideas

IMG_0694

Need a quick do, but something different? This one is great!

IMG_0693

Give her a pony tail, then braid or Corkscrew Braid 3 sections of hair.

IMG_0694

Then braid the 3 together, and you are DONE! That was easy! And it looks neat!

IMG_0695

Or turn it into a bun. Long thick hair would look really nice like this.

IMG_0696

Or leave it down and add a beautiful snowflake!
